The Body Keeps The Score: Brain, Mind and Body in the healing of trauma - Bessel van der Kolk, M.D

💚💚💚💚 4 out of 5 hearts!

This review is a little bit different to my other ones. I initially wasn’t going to review this because it wasn’t something that I chose to read for myself. This book was one my brother ordered that he offered to me knowing that I smash through books at world record pace. But I’m glad I got through this. Bessel makes the science of trauma understandable and without the use of jargon so this was a relatively easy read in layman’s terms. The premise is simple.. the science is not. Even if you cannot remember having suffered through trauma, your body and your body’s systems will remember for you. I learned of treatment options in this book that I’ve never heard of before, such as neurofeedback and EMDR. If I read about them anywhere else I would have almost shrugged them off as pseudoscience, but instead I found myself researching for my own purposes.
If you or anyone you love struggles with past trauma, even if you’re not sure, or you’re just interested, I recommend this as a good read when you’re looking to fill yourself with some fat facts.
