The Quiet Tenant - Clemence Michallon
"What the stories never said: at the end of the day, if a man wants to kill you, he kills you. It’s not on you to convince him not to.”
πππ 3 out of 5 hearts!
I had to sit with this book for a few days. Not because I was unsure of what I had just read but because the seriousness of themes within had left me unsure of how I felt about it. I'm super impressed when writing is good, even more impressed when someone is able to write such an absorbing novel in a language other than their native tongue. Unfortunately, despite that, I didn't find anything new in this thriller that I expected to. It reminded me of other titles such as Room by Emma Donoghue and Dark Room Etiquette by Robin Roe. So if serial killer/abductor stories are your vibe I'd be very interested to get your thoughts on this one! But to me there was nothing about this that differentiated itself to me from these other stories. It was well written and I found it quite absorbing to read, however it's hard to say if that is because of my true crime fixation or because I actually found something in this book that I haven't yet found the words to describe. I guess I wanted to like it more than I actually found myself liking it.
