Atomic Habits - James Clear
The practical, easy to follow framework for reaching your goals, no matter what they are.
At 27, I have had time to develop and cultivate my habits, both good and bad. In trying to improve myself in the past, I'd begun to believe that I'd left it too late to make big change and be the person that I knew I could be. This book has given me hope.
The premise for Atomic Habits is simple. Small, incremental changes that progressively lead towards your larger goal. Eg. want to work out more? Start by just putting your workout clothes on. Easy, right? Using four main 'laws', James Clear breaks down habit forming and habit breaking into something that seems manageable. The language used is understandable, without any scientific jargon which makes the concept easy to follow and visualise. At no point did I reach the end of a chapter and have no idea what the heck I'd just read.
So, whether you're trying to create a better homework routine or looking to lose the extra Christmas kilos (from 2012), this is a book that I would recommend for anyone who has previously struggled with commitment and are wanting to be 'better'. I've given this 3.5 out of 5 hearts as a preliminary rating before I've had real time to implement any of the strategies so stay tuned for an update at some point.
